The Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Program is having their semi-annual garage sale on Saturday, May 31. It starts at 9AM and goes until 1PM. We have tons of stuff for sale. We will also be getting a generous donation of furniture from the Hotel Seward….Thanks, Mary and Mark! Lots of clothes, collectibles and other interesting items. You never know what you will find! Drop off of donations is welcome. All of the proceeds are for the benefit of local victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This is a great community and we have always felt supported!
Twenty Four, unmarked 55 gallon drums were discovered last week on City property. Some of the barrels were tipped over and others were upright. The location of the dumping took place at mile 3.3 of Nash Road on the west side of the road. The contaminated materials may include used oils and/or transmission fluid. These drums appear to have been dumped within the past year. The City of Seward is soliciting community input to help us gather more information and offering a $5000 award for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the responsible individual(s). If you have any information, please contact Tom Clemons, Chief of Police (907) 224-4023.

Reminder! Dr. Jack Hickel will be in Seward to share his experiences while working in one of the darkest and most remote corners in Africa. His compelling story focuses on projects to dig wells and build a health center in an extremely remote and impoverished village in southern Sudan. The village is suffering the effects of 20 years of civil war, malnutrition, and infectious diseases. There is no clean water, sanitation, roads, electricity or infrastructure. Join us to learn about Dr. Hickel’s challenging work to help this village.

Congratulations,
Graduates!
There’s a buzzing in my ears, a light in my eyes. My forehead is beginning to tingle with a strange sensation as I watch, with head pressed against glass, as my dinner dances slowly, circling around the immaculate white cube, rising and falling as jets of steam issue forth with a symphonic simplicity that warms my heart. My stomach becomes impatient, reminding me of my purpose as the heady aroma of “Cauliflower Surprise” wafts through the vent. I step back to watch the clock tick, four…three…two…one…
I am microwaving my dinner.
Now before you scoff at my culinary antics, let me remind you that this is no Hungry Man we’re nukin’ here. Think you could resist “Scallops and Mushrooms in Wine Sauce” or “Crown Roast of Pork with Rice and Sausage Stuffing” ? Quite the leap from a Velveeta Spam Delight now isn’t it? (Where do you live? I’m coming over for dinner.)
But putting the Alabama “Honey, not those pajamas!” food aside, there are some recipes in the book I have for you today that would leave even Emeril speechless. But don’t take my word for it. We’re talking the straight gospel from Margie “The Microwhiz” Kreschollek here. Couple that with a certified “goof-proof” game plan and I’d say life’s a jar of peach micro-jam.(Honest! Page 237, check it out).
Suddenly, love is in the air.
So if you’ve been wanting to invite that special someone over for dinner but your “Kiss the Chef” apron has been collecting dust for some time now, I think you know what to do. Three minutes at Power 7, stirring halfway through, wait for the magic bell, cool, garnish and serve.
And please, don’t forget the flowers.
Ryan Reynolds can be found at the Library, smelling old books and sometimes wearing argyle socks. He can be reached at (907) 224-4082 or rreynolds@cityofseward.net.

My husband and I lost our faithful companion of 18 years, our little dog Chloe’. Our local veterinarian, Dr. Matt Hall and his fiance’ and assistant, Donna, helped us let her go with dignity. Losing a pet is horrific for us pet lovers and having to decide it is the time is almost unbearable. Having someone willing to come to your home, make special arrangements, care enough to cry with you and treat your special friend with respect goes above and beyond the call of duty. Both Marv and I feel fortunate to call them both friends and thank them for their wonderful service to our community. Diane and Marv Thompson
