Late in September of 2006, Sgt. Keenan Williams and his wife Lori, along with six other soldiers and their families, traveled to our community for a weekend of fun and relaxation before being deployed to Iraq. Their trip was made possible by the graciousness and generosity of several Seward organizations and many individuals. Our expression of gratitude to the people of this community is long overdue.clip_image0021.jpg

Several organizations and individuals made monetary donations:

The American Legion Post #5, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Legion Riders, Alaska’s Point of View and the Seward Police Association, Thank You!

American Legion Members and their Guests attending the dinner, Employees of Ace Hardware, Spenard Builders, Seward Police Dept, Seward Public Works Dept, and Providence Seward Medical and Care Center. Thank You!

Other donations included: Housing, supplied by Scott at the Seward Resort. Free passes to the Alaska Sealife Center thanks to Carl, Nancy and Tylan. Geri arranged a KFT cruise. Alan and Tina took photos, Phyllis made brownies and Roger and Pinky brought the cake. The American Legion hosted their dinner and Brother Emmanuel offered the blessing. Several community members came, shook hands and thanked these soldiers for their service to our country.

It is with deep regret that I tell you; a roadside bomb killed one of these soldiers, Sgt. Sean Fennerty, “Fen”, on Saturday, 20 January 2007.

Seward welcomed these Patriots with open arms, and gave everyone of us precious memories. Keenan is proud of his hometown with good reason.

Many thanks to all of you for your generosity and show of support for these brave Americans.

Sincerely,

Jim and Betty Gilmore
