I have gathered some preliminary information, and I will be attending a conference in Washington DC in February to learn more. More information is available at www.ThePeaceAlliance.org. Please contact me at ldraper@gci.net if you have interest in getting something started here in Seward.
The annual open enrollment period is now in full swing (November 15 – December 31), for all Medicare Part D recipients. ALL Medicare beneficiaries who are enrolled in a Part D prescription drug plan should review that plan for the upcoming year. Many of the plans are making changes effective January 1, 2007 which could affect the coverage recipients have had during 2006. Anyone who has Medicare and does not have prescription drug coverage that is equal or superior to Medicare coverage should also review the available plans and consider enrolling since there are cumulative monthly penalties for not enrolling.
Enrollees can review their coverage benefits by logging onto www.medicare.gov website or calling Medicare at 1-800-633-4227. For free assistance locally Seward has two Medicare volunteers: Lynn Hohl at the Independent Living Center, 224-8711 and Dana Paperman at the Seward Senior Center, 224-5604.

Question: Am I required to pull to the side of the road for a vehicle with blue flashing lights? Are they allowed to speed?
Answer: 13 AAC 02.140 states that a driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way to a responding authorized vehicle displaying a flashing blue light (Fine of $250 and 6 points). The driver of a vehicle displaying a flashing blue light has a duty to drive with regard for the safety of all persons using the highways. In Seward, the people who are responding to emergencies with blue flashing lights are either volunteer firefighters or the ambulance crew. You may see them expedite somewhat but wouldn’t you want them to hurry a bit if your house was on fire or you were injured? Appreciate the volunteers.
